Kid’s Hop at the South End Art Hop!

Kid’s Hop will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12th, 2015 from 10 am – 2 pm. The event is presented by SEABA with the assistance of area organizations and Kid’s Hop volunteers. This years Kid’s Hop is sponsored by Healthy Living and KidsVT.

Hop along the South End Arts District to visit family-friendly venues featuring hands-on creativity, music and fun with KidsVT, Shelburne Craft School, VSA Vermont, ReSOURCE, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Nightmare VT / South Burlington Rotary, Burton, Burlington Electric Department, Aikido of Champlain Valley, COTS, and more! There will be food trucks, face painting, recycled art projects, painting, wood crafts, demonstrations by Aikido of Champlain Valley, and more. This event is free, and designed for families with children ages 3-12.

A Kids Hop Snowboarding Experience at the Burton Flagship Store. Come check out the Burton Riglet Park, a revolutionary teaching environment specially designed for kids aged three to six years, to experience snowboarding in an easy and fun environment. Bring your family down to the Burton Flagship store and enjoy our family friendly activities! Participation is Free!

DRUMMING WORKSHOPS/ INTRODUCTORY TAIKO

10-10:45am: Parents & Children Ages 6+
Learn some taiko, play on a drum! This event will prepare children for joining the Beginning Kid’s Taiko program. A new class series begins September 14. Stuart is a phenomenal, patient and welcoming teacher.

This is a great chance to learn the basic movements, start speaking ‘taiko’, and have some hands-on time with our beautiful drums. A new series begins September 15.

CHOCOLATE SCULPTING IN ALICE IN WONDERLAND
South End Kitchen, 716 Pine Street

Watch Emily McCracken, the Lake Champlain Chocolates’ Chocolate Sculptress recently featured on the Food Network, create one of her exquisite chocolate sculptures from start to finish in the Education Kitchen. Attendees will also have a chance to win a small sculpture created by Emily to take home. Enjoy lunch or a sweet treat in the cafe before or after the event.

KIDS MARTIAL ARTS HOP!

Visit our Booth at Kids Hop and get free coupons for aikido classes! Watch a dynamic demonstration of the Japanese Martial Art of Aikido presented by the Aikido of Champlain Valley youth program! Aikido training teaches children how to become calm under stress and learn bully awareness and prevention skills. It is a non-competitive martial art that emphasizes circular evasions rather than strikes or kicks.

Burlington’s 100% renewable utility is proud to announce our participation in and support of Art Hop and Kids Hop 2015. Please join us at Kids Hop from 10am-2pm (behind the Maltex Building) to decorate plastic “hard” hats with energy efficiency and safety stickers and to take a photo with BED friend and Lake Monsters mascot, Champ, an avid energy efficiency advocate, who will join us from noon-1pm. Then, stroll down the road to BED to view and be inspired by 100% local sculpture art and 100% local, live music with rock band, Chasing Days, sharing their music from 3-5pm. Enjoy a tasty meal from some of Burlington’s finest food trucks and speak with members of the BED team about renewability, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

ENCHANTED FOREST INTERACTIVE ART INSTALLATION

Step into a work of art as you experience an entire room filled with an enchanted forest. Visit fairy houses, walk under a waterfall and discover many magical surprises. Even have your photo taken with the sprites, elves and gnomes!

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

Travel back in time and make a keepsake craft inspired by Ancient Egypt or the Middle Ages. Free activity, for ages 5 and up.

Come on down for nine holes of ReUSE Miniature Golf, music from The Willoughbys, lots of donated art for sale throughout the store, a Waste-Not-Products table with upcyled and artistic items for sale, burgers from YouthBuild and experience the Conant Metal High Striker!

Children of all ages welcome to decorate the sidewalks at Union Station with chalk provided by Art’s Alive! Free and open to the public! Rain or shine (if raining will move drawing into Train station)
