South End Art Hop 2013

Art Hop: September 6-8, 2013

We here at SEABA are very excited to announce 2013 South End Art Hop! Now in its 21st year, the South End Arts & Business Association has presented a remarkable exhibition of visual art, Vermont’s largest, the South End Art Hop.

The South End Art Hop is a three day event occurring on the weekend following the Labor Day holiday. It attracts over 30,000 visitors, the majority from outside Burlington. Visitors are attracted to the South End artist’s studios, and local businesses that are refit as art galleries and exhibition sites for the more than 500 participating artists. The event celebrates the unique characteristics of the Pine Street corridor, in particular the development of concentrated creative and artistic activity that has been established in numerous re-purposed factories and warehouses within the District. This corridor has been designated, and recognized, as the South End Arts District.

It takes hundreds of volunteers to make the Art Hop happen. Thank YOU!

August Exhibit at the SEABA Gallery – Michael Strauss!

SEABA is excited to welcome back acrylic painter, Michael Strauss to the SEABA Gallery for the month of August accompanied with books of poetry by Tony Magistrale.

Many of the poems are about the paintings. Magistrale is Professor of English at UVM and Strauss is professor emeritus of chemistry at UVM, leads workshops and classes in drawing and is the author of The Mind at Hand: What Drawing Reveals.

Opening reception is Friday August 2nd, from 5-8 p.m, as part of First Friday Art Walk. The poet and painter will talk about their collaboration, and the poet will then give a reading from his poems.

In the SEABA Hallways, we are excited to welcome artist Evan Chismark. Evan is a Vermont-based artist who specializes in pen and ink and watercolor drawings. Most of his work is centered around nature and the environment, but is also known for his illustration work that borrows heavily from the DIY ethos of early skate and snowboard culture.

SEABA hours: Monday-Friday 9a.m.-5p.m. For more information, please contact SEABA at 802-859-9222 or

Parking can be found across the street at the Maltex Building.
