South End Art Hop Title Sponsor, Supporting Building, Making, Doing, and Creating!

The South End Arts + Business Association (SEABA) is dedicated to serving the interests of the ever growing South End Arts District and the broader creative community in Burlington, Vermont and beyond! Our signature event, the South End Art Hop, celebrates its 27th year from September 6-8, 2019. Attracting thousands of people to the area, this free to attend arts event invites the public to engage with all that the South End has to offer.

Hop from Zone to Zone!

New to the South End Art Hop this year, is the introduction of specific neighborhoods or ‘zones’ along Pine Street and adjoining areas. Distinct zones will be color coded for easy to find spots on the map that you can ‘hop’ from one to the next! A passport game of ‘Bingo’ will allow visitors to gather stamps in spots in each zone and will be entered to win fun prizes!

SEABA has partnered with The Flynn Center this year to host our annual SEABA Art Hop Juried Show at the Amy E. Tarrant Gallery. With the new addition, we are encouraging visitors to hop from ‘Flynn Center to Flynn Ave’ and everything in between! The arts are alive and well in the South End and the Art Hop aims to bring visibility to all that the area has to offer year-round. Attendees are attracted to the Arts District over the three day festival for its artist studios, local businesses refit as art galleries, outdoor sculptures, Kids Hop, Strut Fashion Show, breweries, food trucks, music, and creative surprises around every corner!

Programming includes activities for the whole family, with each day offering a different vibe. Friday evening brings the art party with a street closure from Kilburn to Howard Streets along Pine, artist studios are open with installations and music, along with food and drinks offered throughout the whole area. Saturday is a fun day for all ages, with the Kids Hop from 10am – 2pm, mini golf, performances, and the Strut! Fashion Show in the evening. Sunday continues the fun at a slightly slower pace, allowing visitors to take the time to speak with many of the participating artists and purchase or pick up the artwork that you’ve enjoyed during the weekend!

SEABA Names New Executive Director!

BURLINGTON, VT, MAY 9, 2019 – The South End Arts and Business Association’s (SEABA) Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome their new Executive Director, Christy Mitchell to the organization. Ms. Mitchell succeeds the Interim Executive Director, Jeanne Kirby, who will be rejoining the Board as part of our team. Mitchell will lead SEABA into the future with diverse efforts to support the South End’s vibrant creative and entrepreneurial community.

As a longstanding presence in the South End, Mitchell is prepared to serve as a champion and advocate of this exceptional Burlington neighborhood. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Mitchell has been an artist and small business owner in the South End for 15 years and brings extensive experience that will integrate perfectly with the SEABA mission. She assisted in securing the legal designation of the ‘South End Arts District’, and is currently the Director of The Space Gallery in The Soda Plant on Pine Street.

“My passion for the arts and love of creative endeavors has led me down a path of connecting artists to opportunity. My vision for the South End consists of building up relationships and paving new ways for artists and entrepreneurs to connect and communicate with each other and the broader community. My role at SEABA will be diverse, though centered on the idea of the organization being a platform to raise awareness and give a voice to artists and businesses, so that we all may thrive. I’m looking forward to many exciting days ahead.” – Christy Mitchell

“We are very pleased to announce that Christy will be joining SEABA as our new Executive Director. This position requires a dynamic leader who is integral to our community, who has a deep knowledge of and appreciation for all that the South End has to offer,” stated Seth Mobley, President of the SEABA Board of Directors. “Christy is the right person to guide SEABA, to nurture its strengths, and to support the innovation taking place across our community.”

In the next few months, the Board will work closely with Mitchell to explore and assess the South End’s needs by:

  • Planning the 27th Annual South End Art Hop, optimizing its potential
  • Conducting listening sessions within the community and engaging members
  • Defining programmatic priorities for artists and businesses alike
