Art Hop Celebrates 25 years in 2017

Way back in 1993, a creative little event started that was designed to bring people to the south end to explore, get-together, see how art is made, and buy art.  The event attracted a couple hundred people, a little music, good art, and visiting about 20 studios and businesses one night in October.

25 years later, the South End Art Hop continues to bring our community together around creativity, and provides a huge economic boost to south end businesses, while hosting over 30,000 visitors on September 8-10, 2017.

What’s Next In The South End?

Hello from SEABA!

With the South End Art Hop winding down this month (most exhibits are up until the end of September), we want to send you all a big thank you for supporting the South End and its creative businesses.  We hope that you will continue to visit and help strengthen the South End Arts District throughout the year!  Around this time of year, people always ask us ‘What’s Next?’ and it is never difficult to answer…we’re always working on the next thing to spotlight our local business…here’s a sampling.

  • Revitalization of the South End Art Park to include shady trees, gardens, benches, and sculpture.  We want to ensure that this park remains a beautiful green space for people to enjoy for years to come.  The park, while beautiful, has become overgrown and in need of a refresh.
  • Our new exhibit in the SEABA Gallery will be the Art Hop Winners Circle Show featuring the winners of our Juried Show: John Douglas, Larry Bissonnette, Cara Lai FitzGibbon, and Robert Gold.  The opening reception will be October 7th from 5-8pm.
  • Our Annual Appeal, with artwork commissioned by Kara Torres, will begin.  We hope that you will consider supporting our continued efforts to create a vibrant, connected community which lifts everyone up, the art hop which provides an economic boost for our creative businesses, and our organization that provides valuable service to creative entrepreneurs.
  • South End Holiday Shop takes place right after Thanksgiving, and will feature many local creative businesses selling that one-of-a-kind, made in the South End, gift for the holidays.  SEABA will hold an artist market in our gallery for a full month, available for our members to participate.

Thank you to our amazing Volunteers, Sponsors, Artists, Businesses, and supporters of the Art Hop…you are what makes it all happen!  -Adam Brooks, Executive Director
